wouldn't that be the least pretending to know the mind of God ?

but really in the end, the question is not of origin, but of meaning to oneself. So far we have merely presented an analytical-critique of religion, what is i think more important is to find appropriation of religion to one's reason for being.

if God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent Him.

Why we always resort to nothing when there is still that very big space to find GOD.

Exactly...reality would require us to do just that. Just us why we have logic and mathematics to make our reality more structured, when in fact Gödel showed that the system is inconsistent...

Ironically for the mind who discovered this eventually succumbed to mental breakdown...perhaps unable to cope with some form of 'inconsistency' that exists in reality of formal logic (how formal can it get from there!).

It seems that the human mind requires truth one way or another, even a semblance of it and not necessarily black or white but just enough to get along with reality just fine (and that's the reality!)

Further more it seems to me that evolution favor less the brains that operates on cold logic (hence the mental breakdown of a great man lolz!) than those who thrives on with inconsistent reality (successfully enough at 6 billion plus!) That's why we have theories that says our concept of a god is hardwired to our brains.
