    ya even overclocked X2's can be downclocked when cool n quiet is enabled and drivers for cpu are installed properly.

    even c2quads run at lower speed (e.g. 3.4ghz -> 2.6ghz) when max performance is not needed. just enable all power-saving features in the board's bios...

    mine underclocks from 2.6ghz to 988mhz when Cool N' Quiet is triggered.

    AMD called it cool n' quiet, cool is when the processor is downclocked and reduced in voltage, quiet b'coz as soon as the cpu reduce clock and voltage AM2 based motherboards with 4pin fan would automatically slow down RPM of the cpu fan hence more quiet operation.
