amd 64 3000+ (939) or P4 3.0ghz? which is better?

unti recently, i was under the mistaken notion that the 3000+ stood for 3ghz, i was disappointed when i found out that the amd 64 3000+processor i bought operated at only 1.8 ghz. Considering that the prices for the P4 3ghz and the amd 3000+ are similar, my questions are as follows, 1. did i make a big mistake in choosing the athlon64? 2. which performs better?
by the way, mine is the socket 939 version

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1.8GHz is a Winchester. Runs cooler than Pentium 4 Prescotts. Overclocking should'nt be a problem. Performs better than P4 in Games and 3D application. But poor in Encoding.

Can you guys please help this newbie. I'm planning to upgrade to an Athlon64 3200+ maybe next month if funds permit. what affordable socket 939 , PCI-e motherboards are available here in Cebu and what store carries them? would really appreciate any helpful replies. TIA

the 3000+ is the processors P-rating. noticeable with AMD processors.

Athlon64 = 64bit
P4 3.0 = still 32bit

socket 939 is way faster than any pentium processors. you made the perfect choice... that is, if you're a heavy gamer.

@fish - its not way faster, its just a bit faster. due to architecture design.

@juan_carlos - more importantly, what will you do with your system, use it for gaming mainly? if so, ok kaayo na imo na palit na proc. best choice na as of now.

Under any application ( specially under 64bit environtment ) the A64 will beat the Intel 3.0 or even a 3.4 for that matter, and lets not forget.. 64bit na, intel is stuck with 32bit
