Default Pinoy Drone Racers - Cebu

    Hello Guys,
So I just bought my first drone and has arrived just last week from Manila. I was just wondering if there are any others here in the Cebu area who are also into DRONES just like me? Right now I'm just a beginner here, and am still honing my skills in drone piloting. I do this during lunchtime, during our 1 hour lunch break in the office. When the clock strikes 12noon, I then make my way towards the Cebu Business Park area just right at the back of the Camp Sotero Cabahug. And fly my RC Logger Eye One Extreme there. I do this sometimes with a friend tagging alone but most of the time I am just alone.

So I thought that maybe we can all get together in this place during lunchtime from Monday to Friday so that we can all initially meet and then perhaps train together in the basics of drone piloting and ultimately drone racing.

For starters here's my number so that we can txt each other for the meet up.

So what do you guys think?

Here's a pic of my drone.

Yes, naa nay gi issue nga Regulations ang Civil Aviation regarding drones.

One needs to secure a license to be a drone pilot.

Under the CAAP's Memorandum Circular No. 21 series of 2014 dated June 26, 2014, drone owners or operators are now required to register their equipment with the CAAP, and secure a certification to operate from the agency.

Under a memorandum provision, to be certified as a UAV controller, an applicant must:

    • qualify for a radio operator's certificate of proficiency,
    • have been awarded a passed rating in an aviation license theory examination,
    • have been awarded a passed rating in an instrument theory examination,
    • completed a training course on the operation of the type of UAV that he/she posses to operate,
    • have at least five hours experience operating UAVs outside controlled airspace.

The applicant must also first obtain at least one of these three certifications:

    • a flight crew license with a command instrument training,
    • a military qualification equivalent to a license,
    • an air traffic control license.

nice quad, but its not actually a racing type... if you are into fpv racing, well wala pa kaayo ma organize diri sa cebu, sa luzon pa ug sa davao, i know some people into fpv racing but they are not base here in cebu, most of them are expats nga naa sa negros... though som cebuano already have those racing quad that are capable for FPV flying, the best setup would be a 250 quad, you could also opted to a bigger frame, my friend's setup is currently 450 pero iyang ilisan into a Carbon fiber nga 250, akoang current project is a fpv racing nga 250... still sourcing out some parts...

FPV racing is an expensive hobby... not for everyone... thats why most people i know are not into racing since its really hard to race if you do it LOS...

Search in FB for FPV Racing Cebu. I am part of this group. Though still in its infancy, hopefully it will grow. Many people have bought multicopters that are ready to fly. If you want to really get into this hobby or sport, prepare to learn a lot. I have a 250 and 450 frame drone and currently setting up a 250 racing quad. By the way there is a difference in the term ¨drone¨ and quad, hexa or octo copters. Generally all drones are multicopters but not all multicopters are drones. To be called a drone it must be capable to autonomous flight. Meaning it can take off on its own, perform a series of waypoint missions and return to land without an operator´s input. Some factory drones have these capabilities in a limited sense like DJIs. For the more technical and fully capable, there is the open source ardupilot project.

So far, the limited open spaces in Cebu City are off limits to rc flying or are allowed if you are a member of an aeromodelers group. It is a matter of organizing and then getting recognized as responsible flyers that will open up more areas for our hobby. That is why advice always to new flyers, always be responsible in your flying. Try to avoid areas where there are a lot of people passing by because in the event of a crash, a single incident might result in a ban for all of us. Understand that any electronic/mechanical device is not immune to failure, even the most expensive ones.

I also agree that FPV Racing is quite expensive. The quad is one thing. The FPV setup is another. If you are not comfortable tinkering or learning electronic terms and flight physics, you won´t enjoy it because it is not a buy and fly thing.
